Before a hurricane check that your insurance coverage is adequate and that your policies are up to date.

When out shopping take only as much cash as you need, don't carry large sums of money and keep it secure.  Never leave your handbag, wallet or personal items unattended or in the shopping cart.

If you are going out alone tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return.
